The municipality of Montemor-o-Velho will invest more than 1.5 million euros in creating the Riverside Urban Park, whose works will start in July, the mayor said yesterday to the Lusa agency.
Emílio Torrão he added that, until August, the municipality of Baixo Mondego will continue or will start “about 50 projects” in the 11 parishes of the municipality, whose total investment exceeds 8.5 million euros, with European funding in most cases.
In the area of road rehabilitation and construction, 2.3 million euros will be invested, while investment in urban requalification and various infrastructures amounts to 6.3 million euros.
The landscape requalification of the riverside of Montemor-o-Velho, next to the Mondego, includes the creation of “spaces of collective enjoyment that allow a new experience of the abandoned bed” of the river, indicated Emílio Torrão, stressing that it is “one of the major works of this autarchic mandate.
The project covers new areas of enjoyment “along the banks of the water plane, with reinforcement of green spaces”, in addition to the “requalification and enhancement of public space with adequate urban equipment and support services, in conjunction with the riverfront, as well as the creation of “a properly used multi-purpose space” for outdoor events.
