The derailment of an Alfa Pendular train, in the municipality of Soure, left two dead and seven seriously injured today, the district commander for Civil Protection, Carlos Tavares, told Lusa. The victims were two of the workers at the work machine.
The official said that all the seriously injured were already removed from the composition and transported to the Hospital and University Center of Coimbra (CHUC). The slightly injured are being transported in city buses to a pavilion that is close to the accident site.
Alfa Pendular passengers who are not injured are being transported to Alfarelos station to continue their journey to their intended destination.
It should be noted that the train was going south-north (Lisbon-Braga) and the derailment occurred after the collision between the Alfa Pendular and a working machine, with the alert being given at 15:30, according to the National Emergency and Protection Authority Civil (ANEPC).
