The Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated today the first hospital in the country specialized in maternal and child health services, in the city of Beira, in central Mozambique.
“I salute the Ministry (of Health for the initiative), because (it is a hospital that) allows care to be more specialized and there is more attention. Use this hospital to educate our mothers and sisters, not only about motherhood, but also about normal life ”, said Filipe Nyusi.
The Mozambican head of state inaugurated the building, valued at 145 million meticais (1.7 million euros), as part of his visit to Sofala province, in the center of the country.
The new unit is the only one specializing in maternal and child health in Mozambique and is the result of the rehabilitation of an old one, which is now called Hospital da Mulher 24 de Julho.
“The hospital will guarantee an improvement in the provision of health care for women in this province,” said Armindo Tiago, Minister of Health.
The unit has the capacity to accommodate 60 beds and is expected to receive 80 health professionals, added Armindo Tiago.
“The idea is that I am not the only one and we hope to do more based on this experience”, concluded the Minister of Health.
