The 2019/20 edition of the 1st Portuguese Football League will resume on June 3, with the match between Portimonense and Gil Vicente, at the Algarve Stadium, for the 25th round, the League of Clubs announced today.
The game between Portimonense, 17th and penultimate ranked, and Gil Vicente, ninth, is scheduled for 19:00, and will be the first after the competition was suspended due to the covid-19 pandemic on March 12 , preceding the visit of the leader FC Porto to Famalicão, seventh, in Barcelos, at 21:15.
The resumption day of the main professional echelon lasts from Wednesday to Sunday, 07, also counting on the reception of Benfica to Tondela, and Vitória de Guimarães to Sporting, both on Thursday, June 4, and the visit of Sporting de Braga to Santa Clara, in Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, on Friday, 05.
After the declaration of a pandemic, on March 11, sports competitions of almost all modalities were played without public, postponed – Olympic Games Tokyo2020, Euro2020 and Copa America -, suspended, in the cases of national championships and international events, or even canceled .
The championships in France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Scotland have been canceled, while other countries are preparing for a gradual return to competition, such as England, Italy, Spain and Portugal, after the German League was resumed on 16 May.
There are 90 games to be played in the top echelon of national football, the only one that was not canceled due to the new coronavirus, as well as the final of the Portuguese Cup, which will oppose Benfica and FC Porto.
After 24 rounds, the ‘dragons’ lead the competition with 60 points, one more than champion Benfica.
