Covid-19: Seven islands in the Azores without active cases of infection

“There was a recovery from infection by SARS-CoV-2, which corresponds to a female person, aged 21 years old, residing on Graciosa island, thus leaving this island without any active positive case”, revealed today the Regional Health Authority of the Azores, in a press release.

Also on the islands of Terceira, São Jorge and Faial, all detected cases of infection by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the covid-19 disease, had already been reported as recovered and the islands of Santa Maria, Flores and Corvo did not register so far any case.

For the fifth consecutive day, no new cases of infection were identified in the Azores, and 808 analyzes were carried out in the two reference laboratories in the region in the last 24 hours, most of them within the scope of screening.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, 146 cases of covid-19 in the archipelago have been confirmed, 16 of which are currently active (15 in São Miguel and one in Pico), with 114 recoveries (in six islands) and 16 deaths (in São Miguel).

The island of São Miguel recorded the most cases (108), followed by Terceira (11), Pico (10), São Jorge (seven), Faial (five) and Graciosa (five).

According to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 335,000 deaths and infected more than 5.1 million people in 196 countries and territories.

More than 1.9 million patients were considered cured.

Portugal registers today 1,302 deaths related to covid-19, 13 more than on Friday, and 30,471 infected, 271 more, according to the epidemiological bulletin released by the Directorate-General for Health.
