Covid-19: Macau has sold around 72 million masks since the start of the pandemic

The rationed sale of the masks started almost four months ago, on January 24, one of the first measures of the Macau Government, justified by the lack of supply in the world market.

Every ten days, each person can purchase ten masks at around half a hundred pharmacies in the territory, at a reduced price: eight patacas, that is, less than one euro.

At the same press conference, the authorities stressed the fact that today is the 45th consecutive day without registering new cases, and all 45 patients who tested positive for covid-19 have already been discharged.

After an initial wave of ten cases, the territory was 40 days without identifying any infection. As of mid-March, 35 more were identified, all imported, one of them in serious condition.

After detecting new cases, the authorities reinforced border control measures and restrictions. One is the mandatory 14-day quarantine upon entry into the territory.

The new coronavirus, responsible for the covid-19 pandemic that started in December in China, has already caused more than 100,000 deaths and infected more than 1.6 million people in 193 countries and territories.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 335,000 deaths and infected more than 5.1 million people in 196 countries and territories.

More than 1.9 million patients were considered cured.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent became the one with the most confirmed cases (more than 2.3 million versus close to two million on the European continent), although with fewer deaths (almost 138 thousand against more than 172 thousand).

To combat the pandemic, governments sent 4.5 billion people home (more than half of the planet's population), paralyzing entire sectors of the world economy, in a “great confinement” that several countries have already begun to alleviate in the face of declining prices. new contagions.
