Cape Verde today registered the 15th death related to covid-19, a septuagenarian with other health problems associated with the disease, being the fourth death in less than three weeks on the island of Sal, according to official data.
“We had a death today in Sal, of a 74-year-old lady, who also had weaknesses associated with covid-19,” announced Cape Verde's national health director, Artur Correia, at the usual daily press conference on the progression of the disease in Cape Verde, held in the late afternoon in Praia.
Until the beginning of June, Sal had no diagnosed case of covid-19, and the first deadly victim of the disease on the island was registered on 11 June.
Today, that island has accumulated 220 cases of covid-19, but 12 have already been reported as recovered.
The Cape Verde archipelago has accumulated 1,227 cases of the disease diagnosed since March 19 and a total of 15 deaths, but 608 have already been reported as recovered by health authorities.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 505,500 deaths and infected more than 10.32 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
