Covid-19: Boavista and Gil Vicente stadiums approved for resumption of I Liga

Bessa Stadium and Cidade de Barcelos were approved by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) and are two of the 12 venues prepared for the resumption of the I League, announced today the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP).

“The Regional Health Administration of the North informed this Thursday night that the Health Authorities of ACES Barcelos / Esposende and Porto Ocidental, after a second visit, issued a favorable opinion on the use of the Cidade de Barcelos and Bessa Stadiums, respectively, considering the analysis of the documentation received, the visits made and the criteria defined in the technical opinion of the DGS ”, it can be read in a statement published on the official website of LPFP on the Internet.

The League of clubs and the FPF reported on Wednesday the result of the visits made by the regional health authorities to 15 stadiums candidates to host the restart of the championship, suspended since March 12, with the 'cocks' in the ninth place, with the 30 points from Moreirense and Santa Clara.

Estádio da Luz (Benfica), Estádio do Dragão (FC Porto), Estádio José Alvalade (Sporting), Estádio D. Afonso Henriques (Vitória de Guimarães), João Cardoso Stadium (Tondela), Estádio do Marítimo, Estádio Municipal de Braga, Portimão Estádio and Cidade do Futebol (FPF) were approved by the DGS to receive games immediately.

As for the stadiums of Bonfim (Vitória de Setúbal), Capital do Móvel (Paços de Ferreira), City of Barcelos (Gil Vicente), Clube Desportivo das Aves, Bessa (Boavista) and Rio Ave, DGS indicated “a set of corrections ”to be carried out, with a view to reassessing the requirements of each enclosure by health authorities.

If the Pacense enclosure received approval at the end of the day, after a simple intervention in the water distribution system, the 'ax checked' and Gilista strongholds had to reinforce the signaling of security measures, with Bessa still improving the access circuits and o City of Barcelos to block access to a room near the technical area.

Both are considered level 1 by the LPFP, and the 'roosters' house will host Famalicão's five home games, the venue of which is located on level 3, after the DGS suggested the return of games “in the fewest possible stadiums ”.

Gil Vicente receives the Famalicenses in the second match after the resumption of the I Liga (26th matchday), also playing as the red lantern Desportivo das Aves (28th), Rio Ave (30th), Tondela (32nd) and Paços de Ferreira (34th and last round).

Famalicão, on the other hand, begins to face the leader FC Porto in a 'borrowed home' (25th round), followed by clashes with Sporting de Braga (27th), Portimonense (29th), the national champion Benfica ( 31st) and Boavista (33rd and penultimate round).

As for the 'chess players', they will receive Moreirense, Vitória de Setúbal, Santa Clara and Marítimo on the same days as the Famalicenses and finish against Rio Ave.

Santa Clara and Belenenses SAD have already announced that they will play in Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, while Moreirense has Guimarães as their strongest destination.

In terms of the lack of definition in the face of the covid-19 pandemic, the Government authorized the holding of the 90 games of the I Liga, which should be resumed on June 4 and is led by FC Porto, with an advantage over the champion Benfica, and the final of the Portuguese Cup, between 'dragons' and 'eagles', having excluded the continuity of the II League.

The championships in France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Scotland have been canceled, while other countries are preparing for a gradual return to competition, such as England, Italy, Spain and Portugal, after the German League was resumed on Saturday.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 328,000 deaths and infected more than five million people in 196 countries and territories. More than 1.8 million patients were considered cured.
