Covid-19: Azores with nine new cases and five local transmission chains in São Miguel

Three of today’s diagnoses in São Miguel are a couple, 37 and 44 years old, both “close contacts at high risk, in the workplace, of a positive case previously diagnosed”, and the woman’s 3-year-old son.

Still in São Miguel, the disease was detected in a 31-year-old man, “who landed in the region from an air connection with the European continent, who tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on arrival and had a positive result. however, documentation proving previous infection and respective recovery in the country of origin was presented ”, informs the daily statement of the Regional Health Authority.

There are also two men, 31 and 51 years old, who came from the continent and tested positive for infection with the new coronavirus upon arrival in the region.

In Terceira, a 24-year-old man was diagnosed, “from an air connection with the European continent”, who tested positive on the sixth day of stay in the region, a situation similar to that of Pico, where the case of a 23-year-old man was detected. , who came from the continent and also tested positive on the sixth day.

There was also the recovery of a 30-year-old man in São Miguel.

Since the outbreak began, 273 cases of infection with the new coronavirus have been reported in the region.

At the moment, 52 remain active, 40 in São Miguel, eight in Terceira, three in Pico and one in Graciosa.

There were 16 deaths related to covid-19, all in São Miguel, 174 recoveries and the rest returned to their original destination.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 961,531 deaths and more than 31.1 million cases of infection in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
