Railway circulation on the two tracks on the North Line between Pombal and Alfarelos, which has been interrupted since Friday due to an accident, has now been reestablished, announced the Infrastructures of Portugal.
“The railway circulation on this section takes place with speed limitations between km (kilometer) 185.7 and km 186.250”, says the company in a note sent to the Lusa agency.
An Alfa Pendular train carrying 212 passengers derailed on Friday in the municipality of Soure, district of Coimbra. The accident caused two deaths and 44 injuries, eight of which were serious.
According to an information note from the Office for the Prevention and Investigation of Aircraft Accidents and Railway Accidents (GPIAAF), to which the Lusa agency had access, a Catenary Conservation Vehicle, in which two people followed – the two mortal victims -, passed a red light and entered the Northern Line, having been rammed by the Alfa Pendular train.
The train was going south-north to Braga and the derailment occurred after the collision between the Alfa Pendular and a working machine, near the village of Soure, near the town of Matas.
