Change in accounting criteria doubles the number of recovered cases

The number of recovered gives Covid-19 will officially increase on Sunday to more than double the cases due to the accounting in healed patients that were only referenced as such in a computer application, explained the Minister of Health today.

“The situation report will have a total of 9,652 more recovered, which correspond to users who were already recovered according to the clinical criteria, who had at least one negative result in laboratory terms and who are not any of those already included in the bulletin, because the verification and cross-checking work was done by the shared services of the Ministry of Health and with the monitoring of the health authorities ”, explained Marta Temido, at the daily press conference with the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

According to Marta Temido, the application of clinical follow-up of patients with covid-19 may, since mid-April, serve for the registration by doctors of cases of recovered patients, in an information field created for this purpose.

The daily situation report only included notifications of recovered cases reported by hospitals and health authorities to date, something that changes from Sunday, when taking into account the patients reported as recovered by their medical assistants through Trace Covid-19 application.

Thus, to the 7,705 cases reported so far, 9,652 more recovered on Sunday, more than doubling the total number of cured patients.

“Of those users who have recovered from the 'Trace covid-19', (a total of) 9,652 have at least one negative covid-19 test, so they should be considered recovered and tomorrow (Sunday) they will be included in the report situation. To ensure that none of these users, out of these 9,652, was a case already extracted, that is, that none of these 9,652 users was one of the 7,705, and to prevent possible duplication, the number of users was crossed, ensuring that the information it's reliable, ”explained Marta Temido.

The Minister of Health also said that it is possible that the total number of recovered people will grow even more in subsequent situation reports if in the meantime some recovery records are confirmed in the laboratory that are still awaiting laboratory confirmation.

“For the sake of prudence and caution, what we did was to generate a computer alert to verify whether these cases are effectively also recovered cases. These works are ongoing and may be reflected, or not, in another situation report later on ”, he said.
